Week 34

This week was pretty rough for me. I’ve been feeling pretty nauseated but still managed to make it to the gym four times this week which I think helps. I haven’t felt much like being at work either so today was a nice day of quiet solitude at home. Steve had to run some errands so I did a little cleaning and baby prep. Just a few weeks to go!

We had our first prenatal appointment at Thrive this week. It was amazing. When we both got in the car we both agreed that we made the right choice. I only wish I had made the switch months ago! Their care is so much more thorough and gentle. Baby is in great positioning with her head down, her rump below my left ribs and her feet stretched out under my right ribs. Exactly how I imagined her to be. I feel a lot more at ease knowing all is well. A month was too long between prenatal appointments. My imagination was starting to run away with me. When they were feeling my belly, they said they could feel her arm moving in front of her face. She’s definitely a bit wiggle worm. 😊

Aside from the nausea, all is well. My ribs on the right side hurt from her feet and the belly is definitely getting uncomfortable but overall, I’m feeling pretty good. I’m not too tired yet and I think the gym is what has kept me so peppy.

Week 33

This week started off pretty good but by Wednesday I hit a wall and basically had an internal tantrum. The baby kept stretching out and shoving her feet in my ribs which is not my idea of a good time. And then my back has been bothering me on top of the morning sickness. I’m also a little frustrated with our employees and just tired of work so I sat in my chair thinking there was no way I could do this another 7-9 weeks. I’ve been planning to work until I go into labor but on Wednesday I was thinking “No chance! I need to get out of here 2-4 weeks early”. Thankfully we met with our Doula, Brooke, that night and I was able to reevaluate things and figure out what I needed to do to get my zen back. Affirmations and meditating 10-30 min a day. It has definitely helped.

I’ve decided to do some birch tree wall decals for the baby’s nook and started working on them on Thursday. Designing again definitely helped. I’m excited to get them done so we can print and install them!

Week 32

Well this week was nuts… I got a phone call from my OB on Monday night with the news that my glucose test results were a little high so he wanted me to take the second one which is 3 hours long and double the drink. I went to do it Tuesday and went through quite the ordeal. He didn’t give me any information so I had to figure it out while having not eaten since 10pm the night before. Once I made it to the right place and got into the waiting room for the lab, I had a small meltdown. Thankfully the lab tech set me up in the sterile room on a comfy lounge chair where I spent the full 3 hours. I had planned on trying to get some work done but felt sick from the drink and the whole experience left me drained. It ended up being fairly entertaining listening to the conversations in the hall. I found out Wednesday that the results were fine and it looks like the first test result was fine as well. So frustrating but I’m just glad I don’t have GD and the whole thing is done with.

This morning we had a tour of Thrive Birth Center and met one of the midwives. The place is absolutely beautiful and we both loved it. I can definitely see myself delivering there and I’m so happy Steve agrees. The best part is the hospital is just around the corner in the chance I need to get transferred. I’m really excited about switching my care over.

I’m feeling pretty good this week. Some morning sickness but it’s not as bad as the first trimester so it’s totally manageable. No stretch marks yet thankfully but I do think I need to find some bigger workout pants. The ones I have are starting to put too much pressure on my bladder. I noticed my stomach bulging in the middle when I went to get up and googled my suspicion that it was Diastasis Recti. That is where the connective tissue holding the left and right abdominals together, stretches. It’s pretty creepy but not dangerous and I talked to Dr. Jen about ways not to make it worse. I’ll focus on repairing it after the birth.

The baby is moving a lot more and she’s starting to stretch out into my ribs. My stomach gets a lump on both the left and right side of my belly making it look really lumpy. Sometimes when she’s kicking, my entire belly shakes or you can see a foot graze across the top right of my stomach. Every time I tell Steve to look, she stops moving. He probably thinks I’m making it up. Edit: I was finally able to capture it on video!! Proof!

Week 31

Tuesday was my first official day back in the gym since the Christmas rush. Time to get back in there 4-6 days a week. We’ll see how many days is practical but the more the better, even if it’s just mellow cardio. I managed to get in 4 days this week. I took off Friday only because it was Christmas and the gym was closed.  It felt awesome being back in there. My workouts are definitely a lot different but still just as effective.

Wednesday morning I felt my first hiccups from the baby. My heart swelled and I sat at my desk grinning from ear to ear. Such a cool feeling!

Friday Steve put the crib together. I LOVE it! I’m going to order a crib skirt to hide the drawers. It’ll be my first official baby purchase. I’m surprised I was able to hold off as long as I did :]

Today we went to ikea to get a dresser for the baby. Originally I wasn’t going to get one but I saw one that not only fits the space next to the crib perfectly, but it totally matches my old dresser. I’m so glad we ended up getting one but it took me foreeever to put together. I finally had to have Steve help finish it because I was losing my patience with it. I think putting that dresser together was the only stress I’ve felt this entire pregnancy lol

Feeling pretty good this week. My back is feeling better which is a relief and I no longer have headaches from my sore shoulders/neck. She cracks my neck every time which helps immensely. I only went twice this week due to the holiday and I’m going through withdrawals. It’s addicting!

No cravings this week except the sugary stuff that has been around for the holidays. Cupcakes, chocolate covered biscuits, peanut brittle, homemade cookies… I don’t want to eat them but how can I not??

Week 30

I had to by some new shoes this week because my feet grew at least a half size. I got a pair of Nike Flyknits which are SUPER comfortable and will work great for the gym and being on my feet all day at the gym. I really wanted to buy two pairs but decided to save the money. Shoes are way too expensive…

We had a new employee start on Wednesday to help take over some of my responsibilities. So far so good. It’s so hard for me to give up doing everything but of course, it’s totally necessary. I’m hoping between the two people we hired, they’ll be able to handle it all.

Yesterday I finally made it to the DMV to get my name changed and I  went and did that dreadful Glucose Test. The drink was room temperature and tasted like straight sprite syrup without the watery carbonation. It made me feel pretty sick but I’m glad to have it over with. Hopefully the results are fine so I don’t have to do the 3 hour one.

Feeling pretty good this week but still feel a bit queasy at times. I finally got an appointment with the physical therapist for my back but it wasn’t super helpful. He just did a half assed massage and said he wanted me to do the water treadmill next time which sounds awesome but I don’t have time to spend 3 days a week there on top of the chiropractor. So, I’m probably not going to go back.

Week 29

Well, I fell behind again.. Work is still crazy but thankfully we’ve got more help. We had our first prenatal appointment with our doula last week which was great. I’m so glad we hired her. She recommended a few chiropractors for my back which has been really bothering me and I chose the first one on her list and I LOVE them. It’s $125 a month for unlimited visits. I’ll be going three days a week for a while to hopefully get my hips aligned. Dr. Jen specializes in prenatal care and explained how my hip alignment isn’t ideal for natural childbirth but with adjustments, things should open up.

My belly is officially starting to look like there’s a baby in there instead of just a carb overload. My abs are still there but barely. I found an old shirt I had lost and put it on tonight to make sure it still fit and could not stop laughing when I realized how small it’d gotten on me. (photo above) It was a good thing I tried it on before packing it for the gym tomorrow!

Kiki has started sleeping on my chest or stomach at night which is odd for her. She’s not usually one to be cuddly. I think she can sense the baby in there. It’s not very comfortable for me but I’ve missed her cuddling so I deal with it. We’ll see how long I can handle it though…

The nausea is still here. It was off and on but it’s been showing up more often. And then there’s the heartburn and I managed to pull my groin at the gym this week. That relaxin business is no joke. Thankfully it already feels better and Dr. Jen gave me some tips of what not to do as well as some exercises I should definitely do. Squats being the most important especially since I want to do a natural birth.

Still no stretch marks and I’m doing pretty good with the maternity clothes I bought a few weeks ago. It’s a boring wardrobe but it’s doing the job.

Week 25

I’m a month behind in these updates. I keep sitting down to do them but end up distracted with some other task. The last few weeks have been fairly taxing. One of my Grandmother’s had an accident on her bicycle and was in the trauma center at John Muir for a few weeks. She is finally in a care center slowly recovering with several broken ribs and an infection in her lungs. I’ll feel a lot better when they finally get a handle on that infection. It’s pretty nerve wracking when they keep saying it could be pneumonia. That’s the last thing she needs right now..

We’ve also been totally overwhelmed with orders, especially this last week. It’s exciting and awesome but also way too much for just Steve to handle. I can’t help like I used to. I try and by the end of the day, I feel absolutely awful. My body just can’t handle it anymore. The poor guy is working non-stop, trying to get the orders cut and shipped and no matter how long he works, it seems he’s still 500 orders behind. We’ve been at work between 11-14 hours every day and here we are, on his 36th birthday, at work. I hope we can at least get him out of here before 7 tonight to get a nice dinner.

Aside from getting tired easily, pregnancy has been very generous with it’s “symptoms”. The nausea has returned and while it isn’t as persistent as it was in the first trimester, it’s definitely just as bothersome. It comes and goes and nothing but sleep can soothe it. Along with the nausea, I have lots of heartburn, indigestion, sinus issues, headaches, back pain, constipation, gas, leg cramps at night, swollen ankles, and probably a few others I can’t remember. Thankfully, I don’t have stretch marks yet or hemorrhoids. I’ve gained probably 30 pounds already but technically, I weigh about what I used to weigh (+5 to 10 pounds) before I started eating strictly paleo a few months before getting pregnant. I haven’t been strict about it since bread and milk are the only way to soothe the nausea and indigestion. The good news though, is that my heart palpitations are gone. At my last prenatal appointment, I was still having them so my OB wrote a referral for me to see a cardiologist just to make sure everything was fine. By the time they called me to schedule an appointment, they were gone. Phew!

A few weeks ago we interviewed two doulas. A doula is essentially a woman who is the emotional support for the birthing process. She’ll meet with us for a few prenatal sessions to help prepare us for childbirth, she’ll be there for the entire labor and birth, and then she’ll provide support postpartum. I had never heard of a doula until my therapist recommended I get one. Since I don’t have a mother to help guide me through this big adventure, I thought the idea of a doula was absolutely perfect. I started looking for one a couple weeks ago and had a great feeling when I found Brooke’s website. When we met with her, I knew pretty much instantly she was who I wanted to help us but met one other doula who was recommended to me just in case. It turns out the two used to work together so the second doula will be the backup in case my labor is long and/or if Brooke has an emergency. Steve really liked Brooke as well which was very important to me. She’ll be his support too and I want him to feel totally comfortable and apart of the process.

I’ve been reading a lot of natural childbirth books the last few months. I’m not entirely sure how it happened because I’ve always assumed I’d end up having a hospital birth with an epidural, etc but the more I read, the more convinced I want a natural birth, ideally outside of the hospital. I don’t want to be pressured into medical interventions whether it be inducing medicines, c-section or epidurals. I don’t want this to be about just getting the baby out and I don’t want to get all hippy on you but I want it to be a spiritual experience. This year has been all about transformation for me and I want this birth to be the same.

Week 21

There’s a lot going on at work with little time for much else. I’m trying to do the gym thing early in the morning now to ensure I fit it in but managed to tweak my spine right between the shoulder blades. Probably from sleeping wrong so I’m taking it easy and not working out until it goes away. Acupuncture seemed to help and next Saturday we’re going to both get a massage. Hopefully I’m not still hurting then though.

A company sent us a free pet feeder for Dee. Basically, the deal was that I’d get a free product in return for a review on Amazon and a post on her instagram. She wanted absolutely no part in it and just sat next to it sulking. Not exactly the kind of promotional material they’re looking for. The product itself is really nice. It connects to your phone and you input your animals details and food and it suggests how much you should feed them. It then automatically feeds them at whatever times you set. I enjoy feeding our pets so I think it’s a bit of an odd product for someone to buy but we’ll be using it for Juice to hopefully prevent her from being overfed. I have a feeling Steve gives her a bit too much still. I swear she keeps gaining weight despite our all our best efforts. It’ll also be perfect for whenever we’re out of town. When we go some place, we have to leave her a large bowl of food to last her the entire weekend/week but I’m almost certain she eats in it’s entirety that same day. The feeder will ensure she still gets the same amount ever day so it’s perfect. I still need to get a photo of Dee with it not looking so miserable..

How far along? 21 weeks
Baby is now the size of a carrot
Maternity clothes?
I Yes! Officially wearing maternity pants. There is one pair in particular that I LOVE. I would wear them even if I wasn’t pregnant. They’re thick black leggings with a waist that is lower in the front and higher in the back. They’re extremely comfortable and I’m tempted to a couple more.
Movement: Tons! They’ve been sharp jabbing pains occasionally. She’s trying to bust out of there already.
Cravings/Aversions: No cravings but the smell/taste of peanut butter in a jar makes me nauseated. Peanut Butter Reeses Pumpkins are still amazing though. So odd.
Miss Anything? Caffeine
Symptoms: Heartburn, really bad indigestion, sinus pressure and stuffy noses, ankle/feet swelling in the evenings, heart palpitations…
Looking forward to: The next prenatal appointment on Thursday. I have a lot of questions this week.
Best moment this week: Switching to pants that don’t squeeze my belly.

Week 20

Officially halfway there! We had our mid-pregnancy ultrasound this week to check on the baby and find out the gender.  We’re having a girl! All her measurements and features were just as they should be. We saw her heart, the blood pumping through the umbilical cord, and all her little limbs. She was moving around and “holding” her little feet up above her head with her hands. She’s already a little yoga pro!

We also got our wedding photos this week. View them here. I absolutely love them.

How far along? 20 weeks
Baby is now the size of a banana
Maternity clothes?
I officially need bigger pants and ordered some tonight. We tried a local maternity store but their selection was awful.
Movement: Yes! Lots and lots of movement. I feel her every 30 minutes or so now.
Cravings/Aversions: Craving chocolate. The smell of coffee is making me nauseated again
Miss Anything? Caffeine
Symptoms: Heartburn. Still having the heart palpitations although they’re less noticable. My feet and ankles have started to swell, usually at night.
Looking forward to: Getting into jeans that are a little more comfortable
Best moment this week: Seeing the baby move around in the ultrasound and finding out everything is great.

Week 19

Work was pretty crazy this last week. We had two new people start and thankfully I only had to train one of them so it wasn’t too stressful.. Today we forced ourselves to take a day off and went to the Giants game. We got to AT&T pretty early and had enough time to grab some nachos from Orlando’s as well as a giant strawberry lemonade and cotton candy from a nearby stop. I hadn’t been able to eat anything at the ballpark the last few times we’d gone so I was overwhelmed by the choices. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t end up getting anything else. The game itself was pretty exciting. They won and Rookie Kelby Tomlinson hit an inside the park home run early in the game. We saw Angel Pagan hit one in 2013 so we’re definitely feeling pretty lucky to have been able to witness both. It’s the last weekend of Giants baseball… We’re both pretty bummed about it but definitely looking forward to seeing what the team can do next year. It is an even year after all…

The heart palpitations are still happening. Steve felt my pulse and said he felt an extra heart beat. Acupuncture and yoga seemed to help. They’re not gone but they are starting to be less noticeable. We went to get the car washed last night and they were unusually slow. We were there for quite a while so I leaned back on the bench and put my hands on my belly and closed my eyes. I sat there working on my mindfulness and after about 5 minutes felt a thud deep inside. My eyes flew open and I held my breath for a second. Was that it?! Was that the baby?! I had similar feelings the week before but I couldn’t be certain. I closed my eyes again and waited. It happened again. And again. It was definitely the baby. This morning I felt it again. It’s not at all what I was expecting. I read it’d feel like butterflies but these feel more like someone is nudging me or bubbles popping. The feeling is unreal.

How far along? 19 weeks
Baby is now the size of a mango
Maternity clothes?
Not yet but I am definitely getting close to needing a new pair of jeans
Movement: Yes! Barely but it’s definitely baby movement
Cravings/Aversions: Craving bread, jelly beans, fruity drinks
Miss Anything? Beer
Symptoms: Heartburn and still having the heart palpitations
Have you started to show yet:  Definitely getting more obvious. It seems like my belly grew like crazy over the last week.
Looking forward to: Finding out the baby’s gender on Monday!
Best moment this week: Feeling the baby move.
